So you can bring multiple fruits to a weigh off,and you decide which one you want to enter?

Before they are weighed you decide which ones are EXB , and which one you are entering into the contest

Correct, Grower must declare ahead of judging which fruit is the one they are entering for the weigh off ribbons and plaques. This rule is in place for every year.

EXH fruits will count for GPC Awards for this year only. Please if you have multiple weigh offs you can attend, honor our weigh off sites with your fruits instead of taking all of them to one site. Sites are already going the extra mile for our growers, so go the extra mile for them.

What is the reasoning behind declaring which pumpkin counts as the official entry and which one would be EXH?

It levels the playing field at the local level. Every one gets one shot.

Not really. We'll just weigh them in the patch ahead of time so we don't goof up on picking which one. Takes a bit of the fun out of it, and it's not like it changes the reality of what they're going to weigh.

Some do some don't. It is the fairest way for the average grower.

Thats always been the rule but I dont get the logic behind having to declare one, it does just make a contender pre weigh their fruit.

i don't agree with the rule , but can see the logic behind it , in a high paying weigh -off who wouldn't like 2 or 3 shots at winning it at 6 dollars a pound or so, I really hope they make this years exception , permanent for remote weigh - off s like mine , where the next gpc event is over 2000 mile away in one direction , I could grow 4 over 2000 , but 3 wouldn't count .. so no jacket here.. okay I am done whining... either move or live with it ..lol

That's how we have always done it. Had a grower last year pick one of his 2 pumpkins for exhibition and the exhibition one weighed more than his contestant picked pumpkin. He did still fall into the same place as he would have been with the other one. Know your pumpkins, or weigh them ahead if you're that worried about it. Yes Dale doesn't have a lot of choices for weighoffs within a reasonable distance. Others do though. Learn how to Don Young thump your pumpkin and if you grow a 1724 Wolf seed or descendent of it, it is going to go really heavy lol!
