For a a few 50 pound field pumpkins on one plant! We have a lot of varieties to grow and I’d like a few decent FPs. I know large Ags can grow in just 100 square feet, so what is your experience with small FP plants?

Thanks in advance

A couple years ago I grew a FP in an area around 75 square feet. I grew 4 pumpkins on the plant. The largest was 70lbs and the smallest was 48lbs.

We plant them every 6 feet with 8 feet between the rows.

Thanks both for the answers, they are both what I was hoping for.

Shannon, I found a Pink Porcelain variety of yours from 2012, and we are planting that too.

Yeah the commercial guys plant on a fairly tight grid barely enough room to drive between the plants. They pkant 2-4 seeds per hill and get 1-2 very large pumpkins per plant. The variety and (they have deep soil and good fertility) is what determines the pumpkin size. They start late and try to get the first female pollinated and usually all of the plants energy goes into one pumpkin. But there are multiple plants per hill. The ones I have seen them plant are weigh 25-45 lb and the grocery stores dont want them to weigh more than that. My 109 grew in about 100 feet my guess on average soil would be to get 1 lb per square foot.

I have about 50 Square feet for field pumpkins and am wondering if growing 2 on that one plant could still get me over 100 pounds? Could morrows get over 60 pounds in this same space with 2 on the plant? I only have a total of 1400 square feet to grow all of my giants (the whole backyard) and 1000 square feet goes to Giant pumpkins.
