Based off of my tissue test results from western labs I want to get my levels more towards the upper levels of the sufficient range. Since I wasn’t deficient there is no recommendations on the right side of the tissue test. How do I calculate how much of a fertilizer I would need for 1000 sq ft to raise it by a certain PPM or %.

Example. Boron Sufficient Range ppm 24-70 (Mine 33) how do I figure out how much boron I need to add to 1000sq ft. to get my ppm from 33 to around 60

Example. Sulfur sufficient Range % .23-.5 (Mine 0.30) how do I figure out how much Sulfur I need to add to 1000sq ft. to get my levels around .45 %

Is this something that could be calculated from a tissue test or only from a soil sample.

I hope I am thinking about this correctly because I don't know how to do this, but if you max out everything you may never come back from it.If one of them rises above your maximum because of added manure or compost or trickle feeding etc then your ratios will be off and trying to get them in line again will be overdosing

Boron I would use a TBS at a time...once you go excessive with boron It is hard to come back. I added 1000sqf recommendation in my 48sqf Rutabaga raised bed..it killed everything

I utilize the Soil Amendment Estimator found at http://www.team-pumpkin.org/ to both build my soil and adjust it after a soil test. This is an Excel spreadsheet that does the difficult calculations for you.

Disclaimer: I'm a first-year-grower and certainly NOT the most knowledgeable person on this board.

I have also heard the horror stories of growers adding too much boron to their soil and killing their pumpkin plants :-( I don't aim for more than 4 ppm on the boron, but that's just me. I would use caution with the sulfur as well.

I can give detailed directions on the Soil Amendment Estimator if you or anyone else are interested, email me or post here.

Have a great season!

If you're having trouble with creeping Charlie weed, you can give your patch a dose of borax to try to kill it off when the season is over. That's what I am planning.

wile...And then counting on rain to wash the excess out? Or do you spray a small but concentrated amount on the leaves and its not enough to hurt the soil?

I apply the borax onto the leaves of the creeping charlie like a foliar spray. There is a recipe for telling me how much to use without killing good plants like grass. Spring and Fall are the only times you can kill creeping charlie with borax. I do it in the fall so I don't put my growing season at risk. Even then, a few manage to survive and cause havoc in my patch and yard each year. There isn't very much borax going into the soil.
