I have a stem split that looks like the one in the link.

Except the split is at twelve and six o'clock. I would love to hear suggestions and tips as to how to handle it properly. Hopefully I can save the pumpkin. I would love to hear about your past experiences with stem splits and what you did that worked or didn't work.

Like Don did. Extend the split in the stem towards the vine. It takes pressure off the fruit. Treat it with fungicide. I like full strength Daonil. Keep it dry, use a fan if you can. Shield it from rain. I had one do this. It survived the stem split but not the mouse that ate its way in from the bottom.

Yep, careful work with a filet knife and keep it dry.

And try to cut in a straight line: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=267322

Thanks for the advice guys. I lost one pumpkin today as it went into the cavity. I still have one more that is still hanging on. I will apply the techniques mentioned above.
