Hi all,

I spent last weekend reading up on Raspberry Pi - little microcomputers often used in school projects that they often put to use to do automation tasks. I’ve been reading up on using them to do anything from controlling humidity and temperature, to rolling up greenhouse sides.

Any fans here? Most of the week i’m at work and not able to do as much as i’d like to make sure the GH is not overheating / etc.

hi i'm working on arduino this season will be in the field not at 100% maybe at 50% for now i will measure humidity, temperature control with fan drive and window opening, co2 level control with eventual eletrovalvole operation in case of co2 cylinders or drive of fan to change the air inside the greenhouse to avoid lower co2 levels than the external one, light intensity for automatic shaded cloth control, and maybe if I can soil moisture. All the parameters will be saved and stored the greenhouse will be managed by mobile phone I have been working for some time but the time available and less and less as soon as I finish progammare and assemble everything headlight a video and I hope this as soon as possible now the 2019 ponds and started

I have been using a Raspberry Pi and either Arduino or ESP8266 modules for control of items in the patch. The Pi is running Domoticz for home automation and it communicates to sensors, relay and outlets. The devices are running ESPeasy as an operating system, there are others out there. Sensors are connected to Wemos D1 mini modules and report back every 10 minutes. Heating in the cold frames is controlled by hacked wifi outlets to turn on/off the heaters remotely.

I looked into it and actually bought a Raspberry Pi, but decided to go another direction for the automation. Will be posting a video about it in the near future to show the setup. I don't have anything about the Pi. Problem was putting it in a greenhouse. I also own a website design business so for some pieces it was a little easier to just do stuff in the languages we typically work with. So doing everything through wifi now and smart plugs/switches.

Thanks folks - really interested to hear of its use (or similar) in the field. Nothing bought as yet, but hopefully get something up and running for measurement and then control fans, foggers and heat. Link it back to the phone etc. Fingers crossed! :)

Take a look at this. This is the smart plug I'm going to be using in my greenhouse:

It will control my fans and some other things. There is an app that is pretty good that allows you to set the on and off times so it can be controlled via wifi if you have wifi close enough to the plugs. The app has an open API, so I'm going to use temperature data along with time of day to determine when the fans are powered on and off.
