One thing I’ve been trying on my biggest one still outside, Before dark I’ve been wrapping my main vine to and from the kin. According to my calculations, I’m gaining another 5 lbs a day. I wrap the main and the 2 secondaries , anything coming up out of the ground to the stem. I’m using just a cut up fleece blanket, I wrap stem and all. First thing in the morning when the temp gets up unwrap it.

The main vine comes up out of ground, what’s your soil temp? Here in ND, night time air temps get very cold. The main vine contracts when temps drop, it’s sitting up in the cold air. This contraction limits the flow. But this is just my opinion. But I’m gaining an xtra 5 lbs a day.

Its worth the effort for that kind of gains. It has been hot here, but now we are in a cool down. Still supposed to get some days in the 80's.

We’re down to 50s during the day for extended forecast, 30s and low 40s at night. We’ve been pretty much 40s at night for more than a week now. 34 degrees this morning.

Cold here too. So your main has no dirt on it? And covering it helps? Makes sense. Thats interesting thanks for sharing.

It would be somewhat easy to roll a blanket down the length of the main if the leaves already expired. That could be the boost needed to move someone up a spot or two at the weigh off.

The main that comes up to the stem, there’s at least 5ft roughly 2 1/2 on each side that’s just hanging off the stem out in the cold air.

Lol, I don’t doubt it cojoe. I think radiant tubing might not be a bad idea. Buried about a ft deep.

Sounds like a good idea Hobbit.
It's going down to 34 F tonight in Winnipeg and I've got the main and close secondaries all covered. I leave for high school around 7:30 am when it's typically the coldest, and I don't get back until 4 pm. Would there be any harm at all in just leaving the vines covered until then, 4pm? thanks

Milan, I’ve noticed on mine that if I cover them too early in the day when it’s warmer they sweat a lot more. I’ve started covering mine when the temperature gets closer to my soil temperature. More often than not there is either very little sweating or none at all. I think it would be better if you removed before school. It wouldn’t be a good thing to leave it damp all day.
