The 2018 UMGPG Weigh-off is on October 6th at Gale Woods Farm, 7210 County Rd 110W, Minnetrista, MN. All entries are to arrive between 8:00 -10:00 am. This event includes the MN TOMATO CHALLENGE (anyone can enter a fruit, not restricted to MN). Check out the prize structure.
Atlantic Giants (pumpkins and squash) 1st - $1000 2nd - $800 3rd - $600 4th - $400 5th - $300 6th - $200 7th - $100 8th - $100 9th - $100 10th - $100 11th - $50 12th - $50 Howard Dill Award - $100
Watermelon, Field Pumpkin and Long Gourd 1st - $50
Minnesota Tomato Challenge! 1st - $1000 2nd - $350 3rd - $150 4th - $100 5th - $100 6th - $100

Thanks Tom, I like the way the prize fund is spread down. You don't have to take first at Gale Woods to get a good prize. Thank you for your help with the tomato challenge. I hope to see a big one take 6th place. Also, I just noticed on the St Croix Growers, that they are listing all 3 minnesota weighoffs on their webpage. Thank you SCGA....this area needs all three weighoffs. Lets have fun in a few weeks..the highlight of the season is coming.

I like that the tomatoes are paying down to 6th place. As a first time grower of giant tomatoes, I feel I could maybe walk away with something instead nothing. Who knows what I could be growing in my junk green house.

Hobbit, I think you might be headed this direction. Pack one of your big beefsteaks in the glove box, yes I do read your diary :)...you never know what could happen this late in the season.

I’m thinking on it bnot. My largest beefsteak circumference is now 21 inches. I don’t have a clue as to how other measurements are done on them. Lol

21 inches has a chance for money...using marv's chart that puts in range of about 3 1/2 pounds. At the weighoff I can demonstrate how to do the 3 way measurements and we can do some checking to find what mFactor everyone is at. Has there ever been 10 tomatoes weighed at the same gpc weighoff? Anyone if you are heading to Gale Woods and have a tomato bring it. This should be the biggest tomato event of the year.

Tony, I think you would find it a challenge to buy a 1 pound+ tomato at the store. 1 pound is about 15 inches cc. I am in email contact with too many tomato growers in the area. I expect 6th place to be much more than anything that could be bought at the store.
