Shouldn't cause you any problems. Those are normal on some pumpkins.

I was right there with you a couple of months ago. I was wigging out about similar cracks on my first giant and I posted for help. I was told that they were basically stretch marks and to keep them dry and lightly brush the fungicide Daconil into the cracks and they would heal themselves. I have read where people use sulfur instead of Daconil. And so far so good.

That's nothing to sweat, one of the growers who was one of the first to send me premium seeds many years ago is out of South Dakota too. Great guy, and he has had some gnarley looking and very big pumpkins.

Thanks everyone, what a relief. Learning so much this first year, can't wait to get started on next year. Smallmouth, you more than likely got your seed from Kevin Marsh. He holds 8 out of the top 10 South Dakota records. I have never met him, but hope to someday.
