Kidding aside, when asking that question and evaluating the response you need to evaluate th response in some kind of statistical manner. Even though I agree that the above mentioned combination of X-mas tree and spider is great, others will probably have made great experience with other patterns, and this will depend on (for example) patch size available, number of plants grown (in different patterns, for comparison) etc.. Let me explain it in a different way: Just assume 20 people say "X-mas tree", 10 people say "X-mas tree + spider" and 2 people say "flag pattern"...what can you get out of it? Would it be more helpful to know something like "PB grown on X-mas tree + spider from someone who has grown 30 plants already on 600 sqft per plant, always using the same pattern", "PB grown on flag pattern by someone who has grown 30 plants in various patterns with plant size in the range 250 - 350 sqft"? If only few people recommend a special pattern, whereas others recommend a pattern commonly used by many growers, this could (at least in part) be caused by the fact that most of the others haven´t tried it, and therefore it doesn´t mean it isn´t as good as the other pattern(s).

I like the pattern Bubba has done with growth behind the stump (is that spider?) and I will try that next year on a couple plants.

I try to use a Christmas tree pattern, but it never seems to work out. About 1/3 to 1/2 of my plants run the main in the wrong direction, so they start out as a spiral. Then I will lose one or more secondaries to wind, rabbits or they just don't grow, so I use tertiaries to fill in the gaps. In the end they end up being pretty much a rectangle.

Iowegian, LOL all the weigh through your reply; you can put your plants in at 90 degrees turned from 'opposite the first true leaf' and see if that helps in '19. still no guarantee, but hey! eg

I do a modified spider.thats swing 2nd vines around the fruit on the wide side and keep the main and its after the fruit secondaries on the pumpkin/narrow side.Thats grown my PB and all my non pb's
