How big are your patch shoes? I have a pair of shoes I'm going to attach some wood to and wasn't sure how big to make them. 280 lbs puts a lot pressure on a small area. Lol

I wear a US size 9. I think that’s a 10 in Europe and in ski boots it’s a 26.5 mondo. Hey there’s an idea. Strap on some fat powder skis- that’ll disperse the weight real good! Just joking of course.

Honestly I always thought that patch shoes were the closest thing pumpkin growers have to an urban legend. I’m not convinced anyone actually uses them.

I'm about your size, Wolf. Never used patch shoes. My size 14's don't sink in too bad, so I carry a pointy hoe to loosen up any tracks. My soil is very silty, almost no clay so it doesn't pack much. Plus, i don't till everything up at first. I'm only about 3' past the hoop houses now so I don't worry about un-tilled ground. I had a bunch of walking boards, but a flood washed half of them away. Just the limitations I have to with

If your stomping down your soil and driving out all the oxygen your probably not a serious grower. We allways either walk on boards or use patch shoes and then loosen the soil after.

I’m always amazed at diary pics on how nice the soil looks with some growers while vine burying. I’m convinced some use a hook and straps to levitate off the ground. For me personally, I use boards and move them back as the plant grows while gently loosening the soil that the boards covered with a pitchfork ahead of the plant.

better than fifteen years ago i made ron a set of patch shoes ( pieces of wood 10 in wide x 16 in long and screwed them from the inside out to a old pair of ankle high sneakers) ron still uses them to this day.they work great especially when walking around putting up wind fence, etc. for most other travel into and out of patch we use walking boards. pap
