Snow finally melted - Garden area tilled. Now planning the layout that I will use this year. First year growing giants, so my question is how much space to plan for each plant? I don't have a limited area, so I basically just need to figure out where to plant each one.

Is 25' x 25' a good plan? Main vine 25' long and secondaries each way about 12'. Should I leave bigger, smaller?

I think 25 wide is great. I like 30 to 40 long if you have the room

Im doing 30x30 this year, I think this is fairly standard.

Wildcat83,if your main vine is 25 ft long you must be planting at the edge of your garden. If it was me I would plant further into your garden area ,that way your plant roots get all the nutrients in a soil that is softer.

First year growing, and want to plan out the area this weekend. Space is one thing I'm not limited on. I can set it up for a 25-30 main and avoid planting by an edge. I will leave myself 30x30. This late of a start should be plenty of room I guess.

Brings up a second question. Seen some diaries with plants back/back growing in opposite directions. Any worry of the plants stump roots competing with each other? Maybe leave 6-8 feet between, or recommend totally separate stump areas?

Thanks for the advice

25 x 25 is fine. However, If your not limited by space go bigger. I would shoot for 30 x 30 if I had the space.
