I've been asked numerous times in the past, if I ever tried making pie out of the giant pumpkins I've grown. I have not. I'm wondering if they would make a good pie? I realize with all the chemicals some people use in the patch, it may not be wise to eat them.

I have made pumpkin bread from little AG pumpkins <300#. But you cook a lot of water out of them. Butternut squash makes better pumpkin pie.

I think what people really don't realize is the 3-4 day old culls are better than a yellow zucchinni. They really cook up nice. ...Crazy huh!? (But I don't use any systemic pesticides.)

This must be another HA HA on my extra pumpkin seed post. I would never eat anything that I used to grow a giant kin. To much crap. I would wait a couple of years before growing food in the same space.

lol... I took a pic of them in the frying pan with potatoes which I can harvest at the same time. Pollinate early in the morning and grab a 3 DAP you dont want for when you come back in & in it goes in the pan... Its in my diary!

Summer squash, new potatoes, and eggs from hens that are free ranging and not fed soy. This is the breakfast of champions folks... I guarantee you eat that you will be ready to bury vines or whatever after. That was my breakfast for a couple weeks... a little boring after a couple weeks of the same thing but I've never felt better... Crazy???

I made pumpkin pie from one years ago. They are actually good-I used dry milk to thicken the mix since I was using a recipe for canned pumpkin. Colorados barry todd used to make pumpkin jerky from AG flesh-he made a bunch of different flavored jerky-that was good also.

OrangeGhost, Yes, your post on pumpkin seeds did bring the question to my mind again.

Thanks for the replies. I could try it sometime, as I don't use dangerous chemicals in the garden. Frying up the culls sound tempting as well(thanks Glenomkins).
