I tried it once, they're not very good to be honest. Comparable to chewing on tree bark.

orange ghost if they are a few years old the nutritional value would not be high enough. Maybe winter bird food if ground up? For them it might be better than eating snow.

Before I did competition AGs and dumping all the systemics on them I would dry, season them and roast them. I liked them, took them to work and they were always consumed. Today I would suggest growing the small hull less type to roast.

@ Pumpkin Shepherd The answer appears to be yes from a quick search. Some sites tell how with benefits/ side effects (apparently they might act as a loosener).

Yes Pumpkin Sheppard as far as I understand they need to be shelled and roasted. Organic seeds are best for chemical reasons. There is a certain dosage also not many if I remember correctly. I have hunting dogs so was going to raise some seed to have around for them. They get worms from time to time running in the woods.

Place seeds in pot, fill with hot water, add 10 to 15 mg peroxide, bring almost to boil, then dump into strainer, rinse cold water 5 min. (Takes away 'shell' taste). Refill pot hot water and add 1/2 to 1 cup sea salt (depend on taste and seed size). Add seeds, bring to boil. Pull off stove after bringing to boil. Let seeds soak for 3-5 hours, then dump and strain. Allow time for all water to drain, then put into dehydrator on medium heat until inside is dry and meat is crunchy. Keep in airtight container for freshness. Makes about 20 - 100 servings.
