Lakeshore Update: UW-Extension office offers giant pumpkin program

From staff reports

MANITOWOC — The Manitowoc County UW-Extension office is the site of “Growing Giant Pumpkins,” a Brown Bag Horticulture Program, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday.

According to the UW-Extension, one must first master the basic principles of growing pumpkins before they can consistently grow the big ones.

There is no fee for the Brown Bag Program, but people are asked to pre-register by calling Dawn Fruzen at 683-4168.

I though this was odd too. But it came to me from "Goggle News Alerts". a free subscriber service for news related items driven by subscriber determined search words. I delete most of the wacky stuff. But once in a while something of interest looks like it needs to be shared.

Has this turned out to be of any value?

My parents live in Manitowoc and my Dad is a first year A.G. grower. He saw the same add in the local paper and called. I talked with him about an hour ago and I guess this pumpkin seminar is for real. He will be attending on friday and I asked him to take notes. I gave him a few questions to ask at the meeting regarding calcium wraps, mycorrhizal fungi and flag vs christmas tree patterns. We will see what kind of answers he gets. Dean o

Is it this Friday? That link I got didn't have the actual date. Not that I plan on attending, I'm just curious.
