My 710 uow is indeed my best but I guess I can't really claim it because it went kaput on Aug. 10. Can't bring myself to claim a looser that would not hold up for the hooting and hollering on Oct. 4th. 410, on a split stem, weighed then is my quiet claim to fame....first year grower.

This was our first year with AG's. Here at home I succeeded in blowing up every fruit save one that I pollinated Aug. 19th. It never saw a scale but taped at 170 lbs & was still growing well on a secondary on Halloween when it "got the knife".

194 was the official weight at my son's school with ZERO pesticides on a July 10th set. Powdery Mildew & Cucumber Beetles got every single leaf long before Sept 1st or they might have done very well. My records indicate it stopped growing around Aug 17th.

We WON'T be wasting time growing these monsters organically next year. Try as I might, there is no way to keep insects & disease at bay in a typical coastal CT summer without the use of chemical pesticides. Period! There will be a pile of paperwork to fill out & send to facutly & parents. But I have the support of the school's administration so....

We did manage a 180 lb Prizewinner 3 years ago which was probably our PB until this year. That was actually a greater accomplishment overall considering the genetics.

Years ago we had a huge one on the farm. Big Max maybe? But it never saw a scale either. I can't even find a photograph of it any more. I couldn't even wager a guess as to the weight but it may be my real PB. It did take several guys to move it. And boy were they mad! LOL Mom made them help me.

I'm with Gordon... GO UTES!

This thread brings to mind something I was going to
propose to the group... we all think of ways to evaluate
seeds. Which are really the great ones? Well, we can all
list the great seeds, and I'm not disputing that they're
great, but how much of that greatness is a result of the
fact that if someone grows one great pumpkin from it,
every top grower will put that seed on their list, it gets
widely planted, and to some respect the seed is "made
great"...?

One way, (certainly not the only way) to look at this might
be, "what seed grew your personal best"? I think I'll start
a new thread on this...

Regards, Cliff
