            | svrichb | South Hill, Virginia | 834 Gadberry $100? Is there something I don't know about that seed? | 12/7/2003 10:38:10 PM |

            | southern | Appalachian Mtns. | I'm all for supporting the organizations, member of a few myself, but these kinds of "prices" are ridiculous.I guess value is in the eye of the beholder......

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Ssssshhhh! It's a big secret. The recession's been over for a year. LOL Great auction. Wish I'd seen more than the final 20 minutes but it looks like the whole thing was equally agressive.
Aren't these exchanges considered tax deductions? I hope so or the IRS will get me for last year!

            | ocrap | Kuna, Id. | To those who may wonder why 100 bucks for a unproven seed. Well let me help ya out with that. I bought it to help support a club. I live in Idaho we have no clubs nor am I a member of any clubs. I try to buy a seeds from every auction and send money to each raffle.
Without these clubs auctions and there raffles those of us not near the hot growing spots would never get good seed. Or would those going to weigh offs have as much prize money to spread around. Do I think the seed was worth 100 bucks not really, but it will get planted as it was traded off Sunday night for two seeds that were on the auction I did want.

I use the pumpkin patch as a hobby and write it off at the end of each yr. So helping clubs is also helping myself. I'll see ya all next Saturday eve and yes I will try to buy something even if it's the crappy 1097 Beachy. So support your clubs and feel lucky to have one a lot of us don't.

            | svrichb | South Hill, Virginia | Hey, don't get me wrong. I think it's great to support the clubs. The seed auctions are a great way to do it. I was just wondering if I missed something about that seed thats all. No sarcasm, offense, etc meant by my post. | 12/8/2003 2:26:21 PM |
            | southern | Appalachian Mtns. | Yea, don't get me wrong either, I'm a member of 3 clubs. They gotta have funds to survive. Good for you Ken in helping out....you're a growers grower. But $100? Man, I could buy little man a whole bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh cards :0)

            | JimR | Wisconsin | I couldn't care less how people spend their money and I certainly don't blame the clubs for taking advantage of the current market environment to try to make some money (how else could they do it). I also think that seeds do have some monetary value (it isn't cheap making them).
But, it does seem like the current trend of people paying $100-$200-$300+ for a single seed does take a little something away from the hobby. It seems to send the message that the key to success is to buy the "magic seed."

The vast majority of growers would be far better off spending their money on loads of manure.

            | steelydave | Webster, NY | Hey, if it helps the clubs and somebody has $100 to spend, fine with me. I can't afford it. Right now I'm trying to save up for Niagra. I'm very fortunate there are so many generous people out there.

            | ocrap | Kuna, Id. | Sorry guys I was not upset when I posted why I bought the seed. I have this problem of being very blunt and to the point. Most people, even my friends (yes I have friends) never know if I'm pissed or joking. I tell them if they ask me a question expect "my" answer, if you don't want to hear it don't ask. Beings I only know most of you from this site I try to be careful on how I word things so if it seemed I was upset I'm sorry. Just letting you know I'll spend my damn money how ever I want............just kidding.....I think..... OK I'm sure I was kidding.......maybe..... OH hell were are my medsKen

            | Big Kahuna 26 | Ontario, Canada. | Well, I'm happy with my purchase. It will set me on the correct course. Many here have said only grow proven seed. That is a very hard thing to do for newbies. I try to look at it as buying a free agent in baseball. Sometimes if you want to play you have to pay! Best buys of the night I think was lot # 1 & 6 | 12/8/2003 7:33:10 PM |
            | Urban Farmer (Frantz) | No Place Special | I agree, Lot #1 went for a great price. I think I would have paid that! | 12/8/2003 8:11:09 PM |
            | Big Kahuna 26 | Ontario, Canada. | Mike, It was a little bargain. That may prove its new owner a big fruit. The odds on getting your investment back on Lot # 1 are not that bad IMHO. In Port Elgin 10th or better wins back the cash. | 12/8/2003 8:20:21 PM |
