            | svrichb | South Hill, Virginia | Looks like the 829 Welty will be added to seed selections for the 2004.
 The lineup will be:

 Pumpkins
 752 Blair 2003
 978.6 Berard 2003
 Some Beachy Seed
 829 Welty 2003

 Squash
 675 Hester ????
 312 Welty ????

As of today that only seed I've received is the 752 Blair which I am in the process of packaging. If you volunteered one of the seeds please send them to me soon so I can start working on them. I need 100 of each. Don't worry, any that are not requested will be returned along with where all the requested ones were sent. The 906 Clark was a close second to the 829 so if any of you seed donors have changed your minds we will be happy to ask Mr. Clark to fill in:)

 Please send seeds loose to:

 Brent Richey
 221 Windsor Street
 South Hill, VA 23970

A digital picture of the fruit would be nice too.

I've gotten some nice prizes but would still like some more so if you are willing to ante up something please let me know. It doesn't have to be seeds it can be pretty much anything of some value to a pumpkin grower. I would like it sent to me so I can say with assurance what the winners will receive. Please, no nude photos, body parts, outdated canned goods, spoiled meat or anything that vibrates.

            | cliffrwarren | I'm with Gordon... GO UTES! | Well, speaking of changing minds... I hate to mention thisbut we already have very similar genetics to the 829 Welty
in the 752 Blair. But, I should have brought this up a few
 days ago...

 Thanks for organizing this. -Cliff

            | Urban Farmer (Frantz) | No Place Special | I cannot gain access to the AGGC anymore and Im sure there are many who also are not members. Would someone be kind enough to post the pedigrees of the chosen seeds? And what is the "some Beachy seed", is Tom still deciding or did you just forget off the top of your head for the moment? Can't wait for spring!

            | svrichb | South Hill, Virginia | A "some Beachy seed" is one Tom is still deciding on:) So I don't know the genetics on it and maybe he doesn't either:) I may have to package them as "some Beachy seed".
I think the Blair is 845x1260, the Berard is 810 Dill x 854 Berard, the Welty is 1337x845. I don't know much about squashes other than they are green.....or sometimes a little green and alotta orange but we don't need to get into that right now.

            | Nic Welty | That State Up North | Just to fill in 312 Welty '01, is 829 Gancarz '95 x 895.5 Hester '00, and it has grown some nice true green squash including my personal best 752.5 last season.

            | Stunner | Bristol, ME ([email protected]) | Congratulations to Nic on winning a fun and exciting vote. I wish everyone the best of luck next year in the contest and may each and every contestant pop a big one. Not only does the contest make for some fun in our community, it also is a good opportunity for those who offer seed for the contest to get their seed proven. Good Luck to all who participate and thank you Brent for organizing the contest. | 12/5/2003 6:24:32 PM |

            | Tom B | Indiana | Brent,I havent had time with college to go through what I should send yet. I was personally thinking my 846 remake. Sherry Gauthier grew it, and I believe it to be pretty close to the original. I am flexible on what I offer...to an extent ;-). I will try and go through all my 2003 crosses, and 2002 crosses and see what I think would be the best, and throw 1000 pounders every time.

            | cliffrwarren | I'm with Gordon... GO UTES! | An 846 remake sounds very cool. Having a large body of growers plant it could lead to an answer to the question,
"Can a cross be duplicated with similar results?"

            | LIpumpkin | Long Island,New York | Might be interesting to see the 978.6 Berard and the 906 Stunner go head to head in a Bigpumpkins competition...call me crazy but I sense it could be fun.................G | 12/8/2003 1:23:22 PM |

            | Tremor | [email protected] | I might get one dirty for a G side bet! | 12/8/2003 1:29:53 PM |

            | LIpumpkin | Long Island,New York | Hmmm...a G side bet? Lets see...Agricultural professional with friends with backhoes, unlimited fert/chemical supplies at bare minimal (dare I say free?) cost, who has an offsite patch for additional plants. Unlimited soil testing for free and access to professional agri-experts...etc...etc.....vs a 5 year grower who averages a 549 as his BEST fruit over five years with barely two plants and a personal best of barely over 600lbs with a history of disease in his partially suuny backyard patch?....do I get this right?....G | 12/8/2003 2:51:38 PM |

            | jeff517 | Ga. | Hey Michael,,is that 1 liter mugs??You know,,the ones ya drink from at Octoberfest... :) | 12/9/2003 8:44:04 AM |

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Sorry G....got side tracked.
2003 top producers 170 est & 194 & you're worried about the outcome of next years contest? Come on G. Having all these fine chemicals got me into more trouble than they would have helped your situation. You have Soil Pathogens. Those we can manage. How about the enemy we don't see? LOL.

I finally figured out what happened. Hefty GA3 app. Use at what looed at the time lie a good rate to counteract cool temps. Over applied 4X. Known to induce Cucurbita with an all gay male flower response. But interestingly heavy Auxins can only reverse the effect. Cannot stimulate the opposite effect. Wish I'd known at the time.

 Moral of the 2003 story:

Having a big hammer only helps when you hit the nail on the head.

Either way, you & I have the same handicap. Space & light.

You don't need a big chemical budget as long as you have friends.

            | Tremor | [email protected] | I really have to fix this darn "K" key. | 12/9/2003 12:15:40 PM |

            | LIpumpkin | Long Island,New York | Your On....whats the stakes?............oh..as long as it heaviest wins regardless of color....

            | Canuck | Atlanta, Georgia | Jeff,I can get the one liter mugs easily enough but was thinking of half liter mugs. The beer gets too warm in the one liter mugs anyway...for me at least...he he!

Do I understand here that we each have to grow all of the seeds from the 4 pumpkins and 2 squash or can we grow just one?
 Thanks!
 Michel

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Gotta be weighed in on a certified scale. No holes or other disqualifying elements. Color no matter. Does it have to be a GPC event or is Durham OK?
Just us? Cash, seeds or stuff?

            | Tremor | [email protected] | So there we have it. G just challenged me in Chat to a Metro NY growing contest. Loser has to stroll down Northern Blvd. wearing nothing but the submission at rush hour. I think it's time for a new thread! LOL | 12/9/2003 1:32:29 PM |

            | Gads | Deer Park WA | Ewuuuu, Sorry to say G. butt I saw you in a pic with your pumpkin and that bet may be to the detrement of our sport! Now I have never seen a photo of Tremor so maybe it would work out ok! (lol). | 12/9/2003 8:26:09 PM |
