            | Sophie A. | Esneux / Lige / BELGIUM | Hi Everyone
I have to start a new patch and I'm wondering if additionning "dust of wood" or "chips of wood" is a good thing? Do I risk wood mushrooms?
Any advice would be VERY appreciated.

            | Boehnke | Itzetown City | In my opinion wood mushrooms are not the thing. I think the problem is, that the wood chips need some nutrients to break down. Often the purchase wood chips from avenue trees, thats in my opinion special garbage and should not used. Only my thoughts. | 12/4/2003 3:49:25 AM |

            | Tremor | [email protected] | As wood cellulose breaks down it consumes Nitrogen. The process is called "Nitrogen Draft". It can have little effect or can spell trouble. It depends.
 Points to consider:

-Application of Urea (46-0-0) or similar to fuel decay.
-Saw dust breaks down faster than chips.
-Conifer byproducts take longer to decay than hardwood (deciduous)
-Age of source material & current breakdown status.

So this boils down to; how old is the wood & what kind is it?

            | Sophie A. | Esneux / Lige / BELGIUM | The dust wood would be old oak tree, and the chips of wood from youg tree of many sorts, except confifer. I could have both of them in big quantities. It thought it could amiliorate the structure of the soil. Newbies, newbies...
