Well I went to :Other gardening general diccussion; no traffic!
Other gardening non-pumpkin related; traffic yes, whimsical non-serious traffic. And since I had something I wanted to say that I consider important; I posted here.
PLEASE; FEED YOUR WILD BIRDS :0)
I know that many of us relize the important role they play in gardening, and how we would be overcome with insects , of all types, without thier existence. I feed and water my friends all year round and the water issue can get tough here in Minnesota winters. The way it goes here, although presently there is not a Mrs. Bumpy, that the priorities of feeding are; My Ole dog, the birds and then Mr.Bumpy, aftter all I do have a overstocked pantry. I know that I will get bombarded with bad press on bird behavior, even the hordes of starlings that come to ravage a field of crops, will wage the same attack on a virulent insect infestation, so please, feed the birds and if you are like me, give them a little something "special" over the holidays! THANX, Phil

We get gold finches all winter. The color goes from yellow to a light brown/tan color in the winter and back to yellow in the spring. Plus Cardinals, blue jays, chickadees and squirrels.

Saved all my carving pumpkin seeds, small sunflower heads and any other seeds lying around that I can scrounge. Birds are fat here. Extra corn cobs drying for the squirrels as well. Man, life is different in the city.

Probably sounds a little "out there" to the uninitiated, but a bird bath heater also keeps a steady audience around the feeder! :)

Feeding the birds sounds like a lot more fun then the usual talk around here about shooting things!

I´m feeding the birds (only the insecteaters not the cornpickers) all winter long. And I´ve nist boxes in all trees in my garden. In spring and summer the little fellows help to fight insects a lot.

I feed the birds all year long. I get many different kinds of birds. I grow sunflowers and save the heads for them in the winter. I had a 13 foot tall sunflower this year with a 18" diameter head.I saved those seeds to plant again next year, but the birds get the rest.

I keep 5 feeders going all winter and go through 400# of bird seed a year. We have doves, cardinals chickadees, titmice, bluejays, gold finches, and purple finches all winter. If it weren't for people like you feeding the birds many of them would die during a severe winter such as we had last year. Ray

Excellent! Lots of nice feedback! I like hearing about the different species of birds you folks have around the world. Here out in the middle of no-where Minnesota, I have too many blue jays(only cause they chase off the cardinals), juncos, nuthatches, finches, all types of woodpeckers and starlings, really there is more everyday. Yes, water is good, I too have a heater element in my birdbath, Looked out last winter and the water was frozen! Upon investigation, Tank(my mutt) had chewed clear through the power cord! How does a dog do that? If any of us went out and lay naked on the ground, and chewed 115 volts, thats where they would find us!! GREAT, tell me more about our little insect-eating friends, and HAPPY TURKEY DAY...

I feed the blue jays, juncos, finches (house purple and gold), downey woodpecker, red bellied woodpecker an occasional northern flicker, cardinals, starlings, sparrows, doves, red and white breasted nuthatches, tufted titmouse, black capped chickadee, brown creepers, squirrels, I also have a good sized hawk that occasionally tries to catch a well fed bird. A couple years ago I had a pair of redbreasted nuthatches eating out of my hand all winter.
