someone posted a message recently noteing that their prizewinners rotted early. Is this common with prizewinners? I'm wondering if anybody has any oppinions regarding semi-giant pumpkins in terms of color, shape, size (and of course rot resistance). prizewinner, big max, big moon. Which are the best?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Snap Pea, I have tried prize winner and big Max, for the kids sake, and have had excellent results with both, I have had some enormous fruit on the prize winner and can send you a pic of a really weird prize winner who's mamma got affecionate with some nearby kin. I have grown these in a remote spot, with little attention, no special treatment and have had no problems.

i would guess that over 50% of all big giant pumpkins rot or split befor they make it to weigh off.

My prizewinner pumpkin was harvested on 9-9-o3 and it lasted until I carved it for Holloween. I had the most success with Prizewinner and of course Atlantic Giant pumpkins. My Prizewinner pumpkin also had superior shape and color to anything I have ever grown. I enjoyed growing them this year and I probably will grow them again in years to come.
