If you tilled a patch that had some soil borne disease, and then tilled a different patch, could the tiller transfer some of the disease to the new location? If it can, what steps can be taken to minimize the chance of that happening? is there anyway to dissinfect a tiller?

thanks
Scott

I got a better question..IF you plant several 547 Armstrong's early...and as they mature...you till them in and use them as Green manure does it help you get a 1000 #er?? Worked for me!!LOL!!!
Seriously....I think you can carry stuff over from garden tools But these are generally used right away..your talking about using the tiller in the spring....after settting...Probably not BUT to be save I would spray her down with the before mention solution. Can't hurt to be safe!!

I only know one Tiller you must be prepared for the worst. But i guess he´s not for rent. ;-)

The question I worry more about is: Can seeds transmit disease?

The longer you grow pumpkins, the more likely you are to supply seeds to the rest of us but also the more likely you are to have disease problems in your patch.

Yes, so i would say, it is recommend to soak seeds in H2O2.

As it goes, anything you use and carry from one area of the garden can spread soil borne disease and pathogens. Tillers left to sit over the grow season may not; however, if you are tilling a large area and go from infected soil into an untouched area, you're going to spread it.Also, Smokers beware, there is a very high risk of transmitting TMV to your tomatoes and other related plants, wash your hands in bleach before you pick or prune and abstain from a smpoke break until you are done. And of course seeds can be tainted, H2O2 is good advice, and watch that pruning equipment too.

Tillers & seed can both spread soil born disease pathogens. So can shoes. And birds. And just about anything else that walks, crawls or wiggles into a patch from an infected soil. Even wind blown soil particles can spread disease if conditions are ideal (rearely). But a compressed air sprayer with a 10% bleach solution does wonders. And we should all have a couple kicking around. There's no better way to clean them either so have at it before putting away for good this winter.

Basamid treated patches must be VERY carefully tilled after treatment to avoid pulling up new pathogens for the same reason. The Basamid rarely gets a full 12" down unless you used a "serious" tiller or plow to break the soil first.

I've been tested and found to be disease free. My immunizations are up to date, and I wash my hands often.
