I think it would be cool to see who could grow the largest pepper. The pumpkin and squash contests have been very successful and I think it would be nice to try to get a pepper contest going. Here are some of the rules...

1. All participants must use the Numex Big Jim or Big Bertha varieties.

2.All participants must have an up to date diary on the progress they are making. (with some pictures if possible.)

3. All peppers must be acrately measured or weighed when harvested.

4. All participants must have fun.

If anyone has any suggestions on new rules or any opinions about the contest please post a reply.

I think it's a great idea, the only problem I had with the squash contest was in holding up my end of progress reports! I found that with work, the farm, family, and school I couldn't make the required diary entries. There should have been at least an honerable mention for Welty and the other growers who participated....?

How about zucchini? Anyone can grow big zucchini. At our little Whidbey Island contest next fall we'll have a Giant Zucchini Contest and winners will be based on length and weight.
Has anyone else done this lately and do you have any suggestions, recommendations?

I have been doing some surfing and I found these sites http://www.atlanticseeds.com.au/price_list.html has the Numex Big Jim variety and http://www.earlmay.com/enter.html has the Big Bertha variety. If anyone has any coments or suggestions about the contest or any other supplier of the Numex Big jim or Big Bertha pepper varieties, please post a reply. I think this contest will be very fun!

I tried to find some Big Jims last season but was unable to. I've grown them in the past & they are great eating, As soon as I got them off the grill they were gone :)

I have over 200 kinds of Chile seeds, and after growing over 170 of them I have found that the biggest(Longest) peppers were either from the "Big Chile" or The "Big Jim".

If we get a lot of Growers that want to be in a Largest pepper contest, I will grow the Big Jim's this winter and save the seeds from the longest ones to give to everyone to use in the contest.... Anyone like this Idea?!?

Jeff

PS as for the Zuc contest, I got seeds from a 60lb(something around that) Zuc.. These seeds are as large as pumpkin seeds and the plants are just huge.
