            | Countrygirl | New York | Hi, I was wondering how many woman on here have grown there own pumpkins. Have you grown pumpkins all on your own and no help from your husband. Also if you you where new to growing these big atlantic giants, who would you ask for help? Who has helped you out the most with growing atlantic giants? Last but not least, who would you recommend me to contact for the best helping and giving person on here. This question is just for female pumpkin growers men. Thank you Countrygirl | 11/11/2003 8:26:00 AM |

I have been growing for 3 yrs on my own. As to who has helped me out the most, there is too many wonderful men on this site that has helped me to single one out. But because you are in NY then you might ask Farmer Scott, Lipumpkin and there is several other great growers that live there as well. Pumpkinbrat would be another good person to ask for help, he has helped me alot over the winter. Kenny Blair is another great person to ask questions to. Then men on this site have answered so many of my questions that I lose track. Tremor would be a awesome one to ask for any pest questions. If manure is your question then ask Farmer Scott when it comes to crap he is the best( got to love scott). Hope this helps Tina.....Carrie

            | Brigitte | | Hey, overall I did most of it myself. No help from a husband since I'm 18 and single! My dad helped with the rototilling, putting up the fence, and some of the other heavy grunt work. Both my parents helped financially too... In the fall, my mom and dad both did little things to help during the week when I was at college. I got lots of help from Shannon (rainydays), a guy who lives near me. I also got lots of help from this website and the people on it.

            | basebell6 (christy) | Massillon, Ohio | No husband here either (yeah brigitte!!). I've found that almost everyone I've ever asked any question to is super-duper helpful; either on this site or a pumpkin grower in real life. pumpkin growers are the nicest of nice !! (thanks to all those ohio valley pumpkin grower guys especially - talking to you this summer, at weigh-off and the seminar last march taught me SOOOO MUCH). As far as sprays and fertilizers I have to thank 'njh' for helping me on all that stuff (i'm no chemical expert); but dont expect me to let him rototill using our beaver !! :) hehe. good luck and GIRLS RULE !! | 11/11/2003 2:45:26 PM |

            | Sophie A. | Esneux / Lige / BELGIUM | HI, I'm Sophie, 32, from Belgium. This will be my second year growing AG. This year I had a 246 lbs in my patch, a good result for this very hot and dry summer, and a lot of mistakes! But I'm still learning evry day on books and with the pumpkin growers's community on BP.com.
My husband just help me ...playing with my son when I give water to my plants...Hard labour is done by my father but for the rest, I'm the boss and the worker!
I was helped last year by many growers who have given me good seeds to start : Ernie from Canada (Giantveggies), Eric (Pumpkinpal) from NY, Gerry Gadberry (Gad's), Carlos (Don Quijote) from Spain and last but not least, Jean-Louis (Duchezeau), who has the same age than me and who speak French (and it's easier for me).

I think you can make a request and you will have a lot of seeds, more than you will ever plant...

For help, you may post your questions on the new growers's board, you will have a lot of response too.

 Welcome in this mad community!

 The Belgian Girl, Sophie

            | Engel's Great Pumpkins and Carvings | Menomonie, WI ([email protected]) | Hey CountryGirl,Men or women it doesn't matter, we all have the same goal. Raising a Giant Pumpkin or Squash. Heck my name is Shannon, everyone thought for 1 1/2 years I was a women. Even had people argue they had met me. My wife April and the squash conspiracy group plan(you know who you are) plan on kicking my butt next year. Its all fun and games..Sure you may see some squabbling going on now and then. The next thing you know that person is offering helpful advice, or assistance to the same person. Welcome to the addiction and obcession called Giant Pumpkin growing. Shannon "A Guy"

            | Great Pumpkin | Enumclaw WA | I am heading into my 3rd year and got my start from the generous total strangers on this site. Given some of the names we use on this sight I can't tell if they are men or women but I can't say enough about people's willingness to help. I then joined a local club where the only limitation to me getting help is my failure to ask for it. I pretty much do all the growing/tilling/ etc myself, but my sweetie does help with hauling compost once in a while and he will "Pumpkin sit" at times when I am out of town in the summer. I go my first seeds from Ron Covert on this site and I wish I still had his address becauase I would like to send him back some seeds in return. Have fun. It's addicting and I have found the pumpkin growing community to be very generous. Kayla
