            | Junior | Ankeny, Iowa | I think Dill's patent is up so now the Dill's Atlantic Giant seed is fair game to anyone licensed or not who wants to sell, auction, or buy seeds. | 11/3/2003 2:58:30 PM |

            | Boehnke | Itzetown City | And there are a lot of swindlers around:

            | steelydave | Webster, NY | I still think that before selling, expired or not, Contact Howard and ask permission. As for buying them on EBAY, lets just either get them here or directly from the grower, (or maybe from the seedoutlet). Then no problems, confusion, or complaints.

            | jammerama | Stouffville | haha this is the first off-season that I'm visiting and posting here...looks like a swell time, so, since this issue arises again, I ask, how is the Atlantic Giant defined in the Dill pvp? I ask out of pure curiosity of how a variety is defined. Also when was the pvp created? | 11/3/2003 4:42:51 PM |

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Jammer, I think this is what you're after.
Here is a link to Howard's patent:

Here is a link to Howards feelings on the matter:

And last and certainly least is the infamous "absurd" thread complete with Howard's comment & a sellers retraction.

Kind of early in the offseason for this sort of thing but then the clock is ticking. Slime trails *will* glisten come June. And the truth will then be known.

            | Gads | Deer Park WA | "SLIME TRAILS" Wow Steve is that how your going to describe the holders of the next "Super Seeds" when they won't just simply give you one? What about all the full time work "they" put into creating their perfected strain? I think Mr. Dill worked hard to get the Squash/Pumpkin Maxima cross just right, and he has enjoyed a monoply for a good long time, and most folks I know have respected it. | 11/3/2003 10:29:18 PM |

            | jammerama | Stouffville | Did the Gancarz brothers work exclusively with seed originating from Bob Ford in the early years? When did Howard Dill originally get his seeds and where did Bob Ford get his? Did the Laemmle line originate with seed from the Gancarz bros going back to Bob Ford? | 11/3/2003 10:58:56 PM |

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Goodness! Struck a cord here. I believe decent seed will always be available for free regardless. But hey. I'm a businessperson through & through. And if I want something badly enough, I'll pay for it. But that won't make the seller any more nobel will it?
Wow. This is going to be very interesting when it does happen. Sad too.

Jammer, I read somewhere once that Howard's Dad had either worked for or with a seed seller that had bought the seeds from "Wornacks Wonder" & had marketted it for a while. He must have saved enough of these (or some progeny of them) for Howard to use early on. I'll poke around & see if I can find it again.

            | Tremor | [email protected] | Oh & Gad's. None of the "Super seed holders" are giving me seeds now. So what difference will it make later? Perhaps cash will have a leveling effect for those who got it. LOL
Oh man, this is going to get ugly!
