I just recieved my soil sample back from the lab and my PH was 7.6 and was wondering how much sulfur I should add to my 100' x30' garden to bring it back down to a reasonable level. Also,It was recomended that I add magnesium due to the imbalance between potassium and magnesium. My readings for potassium are 1633E and the mag. is 341 MH. How much magnesium sould I add? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

5 Lbs per 1000 sq ft is the maximum now in the off season. 3 Lbs in the spring.
I'd go ahead & apply about 4 Lbs now. Then soil test again in late winter.
If you need more organic matter, you can also add gobs of Peat Moss which will lower the pH a bit more naturally, but not as much.

If you put a lot of organic matter in your soil (manure, compost) it will lower your ph too. 7.6 isn't that bad, I would say anything under 7.5 is fine. Ideal is around 7.1 to 6.8 The amount of soil sulfer you add would also depend on your soil (clay, sand, loam, etc). Most soil sulfers give you the amount to use on the box for each type of soil. Jim

What is the ph of peat moss? I thought it was higher and wasn't going to add it in the spring because my ph is 7.5 Also, what is a good product for sulfur? Thanks, Alan

Thanks for your replies. I plan on adding sulfur soon in hopes it brings it down. What would be the correct amout of magnesium to add to my soil to bring it into balance with the potassium? Should I add it in the spring or the fall? Thanks again.
