I read that Vaseline rubbed all over the inside and outside is one way. Yuuck!!!
Back to the drawing board. Calcium liquid with a tablespoon full of horticulture oil in water will do the same thing better and leave no gooey mess. It is more likely to be put on and added to because it is so easy to do. The spray will hit areas and sink in where Vaseline will not. An added benefit to appearance is that the oil gives a delightfull sheen to the pumpkin as the calcium liquid is sucked into the pumpkin. Inside it does not matter. Just get it sprayed all over.
Anyone else have a proven better or improved idea?

for "small" pumpkins i've heard that storing them in a cool area when not on display will help them retain moisture (just like when they're not carved)...also soaking the whole carved pumpkin in water will revive it....i don't think that's practical for carved giant pumpkins though, unless you have a crane and a lake nearby LOL.
