Howard sales a Alantic giant seed you can buy them even at home depot. The point is " Howard sales" they are his to do so with. We can trade them and buy?sale at auctions oked by Howard. Other then that they are not supposed to be for sale. Ken

As of 5/31/04 it will be legal to sell you own AG seeds because pvp expires then and there is nothing Dill CAN DO ABOUT IT.

Howard Dill is not a god as some would like to believe! He is an instrument of Gods power. Just because he was given an art doesn't mean he is entitled to claim resposibility for the outcome. Nor should he be the ONLY one to reap the benefits of Gods graciousness. Sheesh!!! Stupid laws!!

god really designed something when he created atoms... cause that led to molecules which led to DNA which led to giants, which always blow me away...anyway, we need some laws because people don't always know what's best for them, but some laws are kinda dumb

what would be the maxed out potential of the 575.5? giants went over 900 when hybrid crosses were made, so our current giants are a result of more than just the work of Howard Dill in the 80's although his effort played a huge, huge role. Laemmle and Ray Waterman created their 'own' lines by growing their own seeds year after year...

so of all the seeds that survived entry into our atmosphere, how many caused massive damage to civilization as we know it? Maybe it was an AG seed that eliminated dinosaurs although i guess they wouldn't be called AG seeds then

Shame Shame Shame to you AG growers, yes Howard is not God but he started this sport and shared with us ; the least we can do is respect his rights until 5/31/04. Where has decency & honor gone. Anyone that wishes to reply to this post is invited to do so in private as not to shame all of the growers that are not quick buck artist or crooks. My line is open. Bill VanIderstine

Similar to humanity, the large pumpkin decended into the "Dark Ages". Rather than 1000 years, the pumpkin was given new life 60 years later by Howard Dill.

Plant Variety Protection... Used when a new plant variety is introduced. Often when you buy plants at a greenhouse you will see PVP Propagation Prohibited. I respect Howards right to this. He has allowed alot of good fund raising to the organizations. He has been very liberal as far as what goes on. I would not push him on this, because he will enforce it.

For all of you complaining about patents, just remember you are using a computer with patents and you paid for them fair and square. If you have ever been to Howard Dills' place you will realize he is a modest man who did not make a fortune off his "discovery". He worked on it, perfected it, just like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, and should be rewarded for it by having exclusive rights to sell it for a specified period of time. That time is about up and the market will dictate the future of the AG strain. Until then you should be thankful that he even worked on his crazy little hobby years ago, otherwise you would be doing something else far less interesting by now.

I agree Howard put long hours and a lot of years into the AG and if you stop and think you may be better off trading otherwise you may have an empty walet trying to buy a Khun 712 or any Bobier seed

You guys may be correct regarding the patent running out in 2004, HOWEVER, Howard and Danny still own the trademark. My suggestion, if you do wish to sell seeds, is that you contact Howard and Danny Dill and ask their permission, otherwise don't spoil a good thing. Trading and auctions are just much more enjoyable. Just my two cents worth

Howard Dill spent years of his time perfecting the A.G. and was willing to share seeds with the rest of us. I think he earned his patent...as Whidbeypumpkinman says "we would be doing something else far less interesting by now" ....and here we have this wonderful passtime...and all thanks to Mr. Dill. Hats off to him. And afterall, we can sell the entire pumpkin...it is just the seed that was restricted. And we can still "give" or "trade" the seed away to each other so what is the beef??? Do you have to make money on everything?? I certainly plan on sharing my seed..FREE. True, they are only from 422 pound pumpkins but around here, there are a lot of people that would be happy with my seed. In fact I have several people just waiting till I harvest my seed at halloween time. Besides, I would not have my seed to give away if it were not for Bill Vanderstine, who generously shared seed with me last winter. I also plan on harvesting seed from a very nice 280 pounder from seed given to me by Doug Gardner. Lets enjoy this hobby and try not to be so greedy!

does anyone know where Richard Wright got his seeds from?

Since I was told that the patent was going to expire, I have been worried that people are going to start selling seeds to the highest bidder. To place a monetary value on these seeds could potentially alienate many people from this hobby. I personally am grateful that people have been so generous as to give me seeds at no charge. I know that if the dollar/sterling/yen whatever had come into play, I may have never even been introduced to this hobby. Heres a question- If people do start selling seeds, or even for those of you that trade seeds now, how do you know that you are getting the seed you were told it was? I mean, a seed looks like a seed to me??

I believe that a humble gourd (Squash) started the AG strain and that there is no "patent" on them. Also looking back on the great discoveries of our time once the patent wore off it was capatilizm at it's finest/worst. There are enough of us growers in the world now that demand will be checked by supply anyway.

Just a point: there are so many good seeds around (thanks to Dill) that there will always be free seeds available even after pvp expires. But if somebody would like to have the hottest seed he will pay for it. I won’t.

i feel personnaly that those so quick to sell the seeds befor howards pateint wears off are crooks thus they will sell you any seed and call it whatever gets the best $. so were do the crooks stop if they think one law is stupid? they are basically a smaller form of terroist. if it were not for paintent laws most inventors would say what the hell and we'd be much worse off on a hole.

personally i think trading and seed auctions are the way to go...and I also think that these 'crooks' who are trying to make a fast buck, if they exist, really won't get very far since there are so many nice growers out there who are willing to trade, or even give seeds away.

i think we all need to take some pvc pipe and crook it so that it gets all bound up and puts lead in your pencil so when the pumpkin comes out it will fly over the tree through the rabbit hole hit the string which will then cause the geiger counter to swerve over to the left beside the old clump of bushes where everbody walks past..thats where you will find the gold..

sounds like you been eating those funky field mushrooms blkcloud. mr t please go easy with that terrorist thing. i chat with some people who call themselves muslims. i follow the teachings of jesus.and i am loyal to the constitution.not the patriot act! im sure my chatting with muslims allowed "agent/s" of the us govt to come into my home and search it with out a warrant or notification. i belive it was motivated by someone("agent")i sold some property to. ie a land grab attempt. they found nothing, but the next time a "agent" wants something i have,it will be easier to violate my rights. sorry to trail off subject,,, the second part of the Q is the unauthorized use of your image..............?

let's just say: seeds from AGs will always be FREE from RESPECTABLE growers for the polite asking for, or the TRADING of seeds in return. Anyone who wants to sell his or her AG seeds, whether there is a patent or PVP or trademark on the AG seeds or not, is on his or her own. It may someday be up to those who want to sell them. Let's just see how big the pumpkins get to be in the patches of the seed-sellers. I doubt very much that they will be worth paying money for the seeds from them! The way it is is the way it should be.

Yes Drew we do, with respect, only months left & still the dog's can't wait to wreck a special sport given to us by a guy who still has the best priced seed on the net. I'm ashamed that we AG growers (some in Ontario) wouldn't give the respect rightfully derserved by him. All I can say is I hope their seasons go like mine has the last two years, shitty.

Jernej, whom does it care?
By all what i´ve read before, Dill in one way had done a lot for the pumpkin growing world. On the other way, he only get his well right if he get his brand and pvp. To all they call that bad, what is wrong about if a man only get his right? Who will complaine it? Remember, by the rules of pvp it is forbidden to save seeds and use selfsaved seeds. Did Dill ever take complained on anyone who saved and exchanged seeds?
I guess there will not a lot of changing after pvp expired. There are growers also right now they buy seeds for more or less money by Dill, by p&p or in auctions and seed raffle. May be there are a few of them would trust in new upcoming sellers. I´m sure that most other growers would do it in the same way as in the past, trade and give away as gift.
Not new upcoming sellers but the growers on the further way will decide and i assume they will decide correctly.

To finish the debate on terrorism: yes everybody can be a terrorist even us the pumpkin growers. Most of us spray the pumpkins with all kinds of poisons killing an enormous number of species from bacteria, fungi, plants and animals. It’s a religious war for our God: the Pumpkin.

Did anyone hear the one about the Boston Red Sox fan, the terrorist & the Giant Pumpkin grower & the Patent lawyer?
You see they all arrived at this ball park, & the field is littered with smashed pumpkin remains. So the Boston fan turns to the terrorist................
Have a great day.
