My friend’s pumpkins were ALL stolen from the field. So the solution for the next year is to grow a pumpkin underground. That is in a big hole to hide it away from greedy looks. Besides it would be impossible to lift it from the hole barehanded… and just imagine: no temperature extremes!

make sure you have a good drain in the hole. in the usa we would have to worry about law suits because a "hiker" fell into the hole! the same thieves will know your patch location. they will be back! i recomend bear traps.oops not a bear? i would worry though ,that a animial or kid would get hurt. the best thing i have ever used to keep thieves out is high voltage signs and fake wire "systems". try a motion activated video system. it wont save your crop. but it will help put thieves in jail! make sure you use the infrared illuminated type with audio. you can get the rf type that will broadcast to a location near the patch. involve a local law official in growing next time. good luck.
