how big were the pumpkins that Mr. Calai grew on the male pollinator plants for the 846 and the 1074?

hey everybody, i've actually looked on aggc for once (OMG you all exclaim!) and i can't find anything relating to the 876.5 offspring that Mr.Calai grew. Did he just use the plants as pollinators? I'm just wondering what the size potential of the specific 876.5 plants was, which were used for the pollination, especially of the 846 since it's been proven again and again these past years. I'm sure some of the ohio boys must know something...

That is odd. I checked AGGC too. I guess because it was grown in 1996, the 876.5 Lloyd has no entry listing of it's own. Maybe taht seed predates the Cucurbyte program that Mike engineered. But if you view the 846 Calai page, there's the 876.5 Lloyd listed as the male as pollinator to the 801.5 Stelts. So click the "info" button next to it & you'll find what you're after.

952 Spoule '98 is the biggest listed.
911 Waterbury '97
854.1 Holland '98
854 Holland '98 (creapy huh? mistake maybe?)
740 Wray '98
697 Keel '01
605 Harrod '98
590.5 Neuville '01
574 Snow '98
564 Frankek '98
476 Beachy '01
471 LaRue '99
382 Beachy '01

I think that Mike has done a great job with the AGGC website. But I also think it is capable of providing much more info than many folks are aware of. Pretty cool. You really need to spend time playing with it to appreciate all it can do.

Maybe to answer the question more accurately I'd wager Mr. Calai just used it for a pollen donor & never set a fruit he thought worthy of bringing to a weigh off.

I guess if I grew the 846, I'd have left some lesser fruit home too! LOL

It's there, what you have to do is, change the range to all pumpkins, not 1998 and above.

Yep! There you go. Can you imagine the hours that went into the data entry? And we get off paying $5.00 a year for all this? Awesome!

Can any of you Ohio folk who may know Mr.Calai ask him about 876.5 plant that pollinated the 846?

Nothing creepy about the 854 Holland fruit. I saw both of them, they are like 854 A and 854 B both off the same plant. I call that being consistant. What do you think the odds of that are? Gary Miller in Napa had an 822 uow from the 876.5 last year, pollinated with the 801.5 Stelts. If I recall correctly it was a sound fruit, just didn't make it to a weighoff. I couldn't find it on the AGGC. It is a great site with tremendous potential, but it's limitations are imposed by the growing number of fruit that are never entered there. I encourange any grower of any fruit over 500 lbs. to submit it to Mike Nepereny, or pass on the information and hopefully a photo as well to a grower friend who can submit it for you.

I can answer that...the 876.5 that pollinated the 846 was less than 400 lbs.....same way with the 1074

why were they less than 400? were these specific plants genetically limited size-wise or did they not receive proper care, or become sick or something?

...and we should submit entries to the aggc for pumpkins under 500 which are in someway special...like the pollinator for the 846
