Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin

Hi everyone,
I awoke to some bad news this morning. Last weekend we had out little local weigh-off, and it all went good. First place went to my aunt with 359 and second to me and my brother with 343. They have been on display at a local bar and grill (Where the weigh-off) was for the past week. Last night, some of the patrons were a little overserved and decided it would be fun to mess with the pumpkins. We figure what happened is they loaded up my pumpkin (As it is completely gone) and dropped my aunt's pumpkin when they were trying to load it, and it smashed all over. When we went to survery the damage this morning, what we found were pumpkin pieces all over, but the seeds appeared to have been taken. We got about 15 or so that were still stuck in the pumpkin.

Supposedly the police were called for a public disturbance (and tickets were issued)due to what we are told the same idividuals fighting in the parking lot, so we can find out more information tomorrow and hopefully resolve the situation.

My question is that if we do find out who is responsible for the theft of mine and the damage to my aunt's, should we ask for monetary compensation? I feel worse for my aunt because she was going to give seeds to her co-workers and friends that asked for them, but doesn't really have any now thanks to these immature individuals. So, if we do end up asking for them to pay for the damage, what would be a fair amount?

Thanks for listening, nice to get it off my chest, the whole situation has me more than a little POed. -Tim

That sucks Tim. I think a $100 each pumpkin plus get them to pay for, load and unload a truck load of manure for your gardens. I'm sure the guys and gals of Big Pumpkins.com could supply you with some new seed to help with your loss. I have a bunch if you would like some, just email me.

I'd estimate monetary input at $300 per pumpkin without accounting for your time. That's pretty close to accurate in these parts once all is said & done.

How many seeds does your aunt need? We have more than we'll ever use. Send me an email with an address & headcount. There's not a loser in the lot.

I would not waste a bullet on them. Tell the judge that each is to buy a shovel and load several truckloads of manure sprad out on your patch. At Steve's suggested price and at minimum wage that would be quite a few truck loads...

Bantam should be a judge. A little hard labor would do them well. AND your patch get's prepped! Great idea.

Thanks guys. I have calmed down a lot now. I also appreciate the seed offers. I also like the idea of making them haul manure, great punishment ;) I will probably end up with the names of who did it on Tuesday. The bar owner (friend of my parents, nice lady) has been out of town, but she returns Tuesday and will help us find out who it was because her dumb bartenders from Saturday night all seem to know absolutely nothing. Thanks again, Tim

file a claim against the "dumb" bartenders.
like being responsible for making superdrunks, they are liable for the security of your loan.
it is criminal theft.
go to the cops and file a criminal complaint.
dills first book values 3oo#s at $.45 a lb.
seed at $1 each.
also file suit against the owner.
unless she gives you the info on who/how.
and if she gives you fair compensation for the loss.
once you know who and how,,,go to thier family and friends and tell them.
before i "changed",i would have stocked up on little catapult sized pumpkins and gave the thieves lots of pumpkins the hard way!
i dont recomend vengence in this form because it causes more trouble, and the law dosent like it.
some rotten pumpkin guts in the thieves vehicles and ventilation systems might help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
or perhaps some powdered exlax in thier next "free" drink.

By all what Tim wrote, only the seeds are stolen from one pumpkin, sorry, but it sounds to me like an extraterrestrial conspiration.

which part? the cops and court,,,or the payback?
thieves and vandals have no excuse,,,none...
and drunks,,,first drink and you know you may get sloshed to the point where the oxigen isnt going to get to your brain.
knowing you may get "stupid" is no excuse to damage and/or steal others hard work.
do that kind of stupidity to a piccaso or or rodans thinker and see the reaction.
