My pumpkin was attacked last night by vandals. They could not move it far, but succeeded in breaking it open. I removed the seeds, and now am wondering what the method of cleaning the seeds is. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks, Mark

clean with water and bleach solutuion 10 to 1. Then clean again. Put on trays with fan blowing on them for 2-3 weeks. Insure inside, or in garage with doors shut, alot of critters (squirles, etc.) would love to take them off your hands for dinner.

after i pull the out of the fruit, mine go up in the attic onto door screens for a couple weeks, until they are dry enough to get the "skins" flaking off a bit. then i take them down and remove the skins, usually as something to keep my hands busy while watching tv. then they stay downstairs where it is usually a little warmer for another week to completely dry out. i've never washed mine in any way. i don't think you would need to unless you had some sort of rot in the pumpkin and were worried about it doing something to the seeds.

I just harvested seed from my 570 tonight, 681 of the biggest damn seed I have ever seen. Anyway, I called Jim Kuhn to see what he does and he never washes or treats his with anything. Spread them out on something they won't stick to, put a fan on them, stir them around after a day to keep them from sticking to each other and dependding on humidity levels, you can peel the 'onion skin' off in a week to two..I let mine dry 3 weeks total just to be sure.
