When a fruit is cracking and bleeding from growing so fast, does that slow down fruit gains while it is healing? And if so, will it pick back up? Thanks!

Now my problem is the fruit won't heal! One crack has been driping now for about 4 days. Leaving a pile of clear cavier like substance on the ground. It's not that big of a crack either maybe 2 1/2" long. The fruit is still growing. Put on two inches since yesterday 112" Cir. Any ideas on what's going on? Or what I can do?

Hey Brian,
This is not by chance happening on a 455 is it my "heifer" did this all while it was growing. Right in the Shoulder Areas. Its a heavy sound fruit. I think I would rather have the external cracks than internal.

Not on the 455 Shannon but on a 455 selfed. (537 Hildebrand) Yes, in the shoulder area. Seems like i've prob. lost about a half cup of "gel". Did you let it go or try to keep it cleaned up and dry as possible? Thanks for the reply!

Brian, I had one with lots of skin splits similar to what you describe. I backed off on the irrigation to that plant & tried to keep those areas dry. The fruit kept growing at a slightly slower rate, but stayed healthy. I'm sure the low humidity here helped, & I didn't put a fan out in the patch, because afterall, Wyoming really is just a big fan sometimes. The fruit went about 50 lb heavy & weighed in at 497 lb.
