Nobody is telling me anything. If you grew my seeds from the offer this past winter, or any other Beachy seeds, please post the results and what seed it was. I learned about 2 over 1100 lbs through the grape vine. Also let me know what you think about it and how it did compared to everything else. I can take a hit so be harsh if necessary.

Thanks,

Tom Beachy

can't kill the 501.5 Beachy. tornado killed the plant, it regenerated and the growth of my pumpkin never slowed. recently we had a hard freeze and most of it died but today i found 3 vines that were stick up like nothing happened. i ended up with an 814 pound beauty. you can see everything in my diary. out.

I grew the Beachy 705 Stelts replicant, it didn't do well for me but that's probably my fault and not the seeds genetics.
Crossed it with the 548 Janowiak (705 Stelts x self), pumpkin grew to 250# or so.

Hi Tom, First off I would like say it was a pleasure to finally meet you. When you and Casey introduced yourselves to me at the weigh off, I was a little shocked to see how young you guys are(more like speachless). I was expecting that Tom and Casey were some old guys in there 50's or 60's.

As you know I grew your 588 from 2000. I did'nt plan on growing that seed this year. I'am very glad I did as it produced my personal best. The fruit did have problems as you saw but I think its definatly worth another try next year.

The weight was 755lbs.(would have been 6th in the state if it was'nt for that hole). It must be those 1061 Zehr genetics that helped it get so big.

The plant its self was one of my strongest from the start. It germinated fast and was a strong grower all season. The vine was super thick and this plant put out secondaries at every leaf junction. The 1st female flower was 12 feet out and it was the one that I went with. It was a 5 lober. I pollinated it on July 17th. I only had 1 male that morning on the 588 so I introduced her to the 723 Bobier(1999 offspring) it was love at first site. That pumpkin soon out grew everything else I had, Including pumpkins set on the 723 that were 5 days older. I eventually pulled the 723 to make more room for the 588. It was a hard to pull that plant, I thought about it for over a week. I'm glad I did, but always wonder what It might of produced. I have 2 more of those 723 bobier(1999 offspring) seeds that will go in again next year.

The #1 weekness of your 588 is heat. This plant wilted badly in the hot sun. I ran a overhead mister for evaporative cooling and it helped a little. Another problem I had was that the main vine, although very thick and healthly twisted alot. I had many leaf stems coming from the bottom of the vine and tap roots coming off the top.

Keep an eye on your mailbox for the 755 Ballmann seeds that will be on the way. Dean

Hey Tom

I grew your Beachy 1097.5. My pumpkin weighed in at 796 lbs, the estimated weight was 723. It weighed 10.07% heavy. Growth essentially stopped the first week of September, the stump blew from a bacteria infection and I had to sever most of the main and secondaries prior to the pumpkin. It went for a month with just two secondary vines supporting it. If it had remained healthy till harvest I believe it would have approached the 1000 lb mark.

It came in 13th overall at Canfield, I was extremely pleased with that. We also won the rookie of the year award at Canfield. It was our first year exhibiting and we had the heaviest of the first year exhibitors.

On the downside the plant did require a lot of attention. It was the least heat tolerant of all I grew and there were three big stem splits I had to manage.

I did self pollinate it and plan on growing a least one plant from the Muller 796 2003.

Thanks again for the seeds Tom

I was hoping that my competition here in WI. was on the older side. I figured I would get good at this over time and let the old guys fade away. I was going to move into their place and in a few years and take the state record.

The players in this game are young to middle aged, kind of like the bar scene on College Ave. I really have some serious competition out there. I need to start working out again to get my edge back......Dean.......I'm going jogging tonight trying to get in shape for next year.

I grew one Beachy plant. No sizable fruit to speak of. All my plants grew well but no sizable fruit on them as well. Too wet of a summer produced too many fungi and enjoyed my fruits....yummm.

you mean you all didn't know? Tom's 54 years old, he just wears a mask to the weighoff to make himself look younger for the ladies. lol

Ignorant! Pumpkingrowing makes younger, there is no need for a mask.
