Ok folks any one know what seed and cross grew what pumpkin from all the ones being listed. Yours or others if you know...
I'll start (yes most of you know)
727.0 Pearce (1337.0 Houghton X 1230 Daletas) 697.5* Pearce (895.5* Hester X Self) 509.0* Pearce (856.0* Hester X 895.5* Hester) 457.0 Pearce (1230 Daletas X Self)

interesting that the 1230 grew a thousand pounder and also a 457....Hey GV would you say that the 1230 seed you had was maximized at 457? Like if Alan Eaton grew it what would he have gotten it to, out of curiousity? Could he have gotten it any bigger or was that specific seed limited to growing a 500lber at most?

Mike I am not trying to attack you personnaly, but what did you grow this year and how many years have you been growing. If you think you can throw a 783 daletas or a 1230 daletas in the ground and get a 1000 pounder more power to you. There are so many things that go wrong with these things. Soil conditions, insects, disease, high and low temperatures, flucuations in growth causing splits, fruits aborting for no apparent reason, sudden hail storms, critters chewing on your roots. The list goes on. I could write a book, wait a minute Don Langevins wrote three. Growing giant pumpkins is a new challenge every year, a new one I look forward to every year to beat me personal best from the year before and learn from what worked in my climate. Shannon

I've been growing since '92 and i grew a ~750lber this year, but i had an 832 UOW in '93...living in the past in know...
I know lots of things can go wrong, that's why i'm asking whether 500lbs was the limit of that seed, or whether it was pollinated late, grown on a tiny plant, infected by a virus, grown in shit soil..there are lots of possibilities as to what could've gone wrong...or perhaps the genetics weren't there even though it was from the 1230 daletas, that's also a possibility

Jammerama:
1230 was grown in 450 sq. ft., had multiple main vine splits and holes from hail and was pollinated near the end of july plus soil was off peak.
now getting back to this post topic what was the seed and pollinator for your 750lb'er

my ~750 which i'm hoping to actually get a weight for was grown from my 490 est of 2002 which was an open pollinated 1058 papez, the possible pollinators of the 490 are the 1092 burke, the 1020 papez, the 850.5 eaton and self. the ~750 was pollinated with the 625 est jammer of 2002 which was most likely a self-pollinated 1092 burke. The 625 est jammer that pollinated the ~750 (man i hope i get a weight for it) grew an ~450lber...wow that was a lot of ~'s, est's and open pollinations, too many as far as I'm concerned but I've done what I've done

619.5 Engel 03 (1074Calai02 X SELF) 601 Engel 03 (869 Calai x 455 Andrews) 543 Engel 03 (934 Kennedy 02 X 1074 Calai) 251 Engel 03 (869 Calai X 801.5 Stelts) 231 Engel 03 (801.5 Stelts X Self) grown from 1049.5 Koch plant that was grown in a 150 sqf and pummeled with powdery mildew, that finally killed the plant.
My previous best was a 451 Engel 02 (637 Kilbert X Self) Brigitte grew it this year and got a beautiful heavy 604.5.
