The Oswego weighoff was an adventure today- soaking rain showers and dark skies, then the scale broke before weighing any fruit. By 1:15pm nothing had yet been weighed. A decision was made to drive everybody over to the nearby Port Authority scales to do the official weighing, then come back for awards. I've posted 17 pix to the gallery showing nearly all the fruit at the weighoff, but without most owner names or weights (I couldn't stick around to the delayed end). -Rick I.

More reports from the weighoff... the Port Authority scales are intended to weigh things like huge tractor trailer trucks. Each fruit was weighed with the fork lift, and then the fork lift "empty" weight subtracted. One wonders if such a scale can accurately weigh in that range, and also differentiate 100 pounds or less. I wonder what other sites' "back up plans" are in case their scale breaks down? The watermelon were weighed on a borrowed bathroom scale (really).
