Greetings all, My granddaughter and I have been gardening together for a few years now, and she enjoys entering the veggies in the local fair in the youth group. We have decided to try growing a couple giant pumpkins for our first time next spring. We live in the just out side of Spokane Washington. I am looking for any advice on what type of seeds to get for this area, and where to purchase them. We are planning on getting a book on growing giant pumpkins for reference, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott

Scott:
Seeds are the easy part of growing, you don't even need to buy them. Just ask. I myself have just started up a seed bank for new growers like yourself to get good proven seed to start growing in this very addictive sport. Send your snail mail address to [email protected] and I'll send you down some to get started. or have a look at the seed list and pick your own.

You can also get seeds from this site from the seeds section. or e-mail just about any grower on here and they'll send you free seed.
Getting the "How to grow Giant Pumpkin books" is a big plus and hang out here and search the site and ask lots of questions.
Try to attend a weigh-off around your area this weekend and get to know some of the local growers in your area they are always willing to lend a hand through-out the year.
The best advice you will probably find out is three things "Good Soil, Good Seed, and Good Luck"
The soil info can be found through out this site, the seeds I can help you with, and I wish you and your granddaughter the best of Luck at this very addictive sport next year.

Ps. Did I mention that this is a very addictive sport.

http://www.pnwgpg.com is the website for the pacific northwest giant pumpkin growers. By joining, you get free seeds, a couple of newsletters, wieghoff info, and the chance to meet/talk with via phone, email, or in person a lot of neat people who are very helpful. This web site is also great. Happy growing.
