I lifted a 641 pounder with 4 guys. Put all 4 of them on one side of the pumpkin, they reached underneath picked it up so it was sitting on it's opposite side. I then inspected the bottom, and laid the tarp down as far as I could up to the side still on the ground. Laid it back down gently, then moved to the other side and picked up, didn't need to go to far on the other side to reach the tarp, pulled it through and laid it back down safely.
If your team is not familiar with AG's do not forget to tell them not to grab the stem or the blossom end, they can break off very easily.
best of luck!

I found this method to be quite comfortable and used it for myself last season: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=874&gid=-1567 Just follow the sequence of pics.

since the shoulders are normally thicker (stem end)and the blossem end thinner. I would think you'd want to roll it side to side slightly toward the shoulders. so that you never roll it on the bossem end which would be the weakest side. especially if you have a Dill ring. i think what most growers do naturally since it is generally easier to roll them from side to side than from front to back because of the shape.
