hey mr brat, i'm curious why you're interested in the 310. What are the genetics of it?

Ok i checked it out for myself, a selfed 846, just like the pukos 735 which incidentally grew a 1083.5 ... So a selfed 846 can produce some big ones! Does anyone know what the growing conditions of the 310 were and why it only reached 310? Was it a small or diseased plant, pollinated late ...?

I believe the size of the fruit does not effect the genetics of the seed....providing the seed is well developed and able to germinate. I'm sorry that my cross 1061.5 TC X 1097.8 TC now going to become (estimating) 400 DG 03 will not be seen as a dandy cross for the same reason. Some feel the 1097.5 is great while others feel the 1061.5 has super great potential. So I have two potentially good ones crossed both ways. Both will have visual apologies. One due to early removal but with excellent germination the other due to grower inexperience only made an estimated 400. It will be weighed and registered. The 710DG 03 UFW can not be weighed. In either case the seed potential is not effected if my understanding is correct. ...Guess that is to also say that a 582 Hester given the same exact treatment and growing conditions would be potentially able to repeat the most recent level of success. The key word is always potential. Can an other grower duplicate the exact conditions and management of any other grower. Hardly! And then an other grower may do even better! Exciting? You bet!

I agree, as long as the seeds in the fruit had a chance to mature, their potential is not affected by the actual size of the fruit as far as i see it. DNA is created at pollination, when squash sex occurs and these molecules shouldn't change as the fruit grows...just for interest sake, read my post on the 'hypothetical situation' i came up with, in the "big pumpkins from small pumpkins" post, where I talk about what if the 845 grew to only 55 due to plant size but the seeds matured! Anyway I just had a new though...haha...a 55 lber couldn't hold 600 seeds...anyway besides that fact, comments on my hypothetical situation are welcome

perhaps if a virus (which is DNA/RNA) was the reason that the fruit ended up being small, the DNA in the seeds could have been changed, reducing the potential of the seeds?!?! I'm really speculating here... anyone with more knowledge in this field, please inform us all if this could occur!!!

if a 75 lber. can hold over 700 seeds, I think a 55 lber. could hold 600 jammerama......

I was Don's neighbor a few years back when he grew the 310.It was A cull that never happend 2nd pumpkin on the plant that he wouldent cut due to its nice shape and color. The plant was problem free and healthy. The other pumpkin on the plant was his 7??lb he brought to topsfield.I also grew it (310) this year didnt do many of the seeds i planted this year justice!! it has a 100lb fruit on it now,but the plant only had 40 or 50 leafs on it,two main vines and 1 pumpkin.didnt get taken care of very often(growing alot of pumpkin plants is a lot of work:))i would say its a good seed,if more people planted it we would see some fine results.Just my opnion.John

I grew the 310Eisenhaur in California this year. It grew like gang-busters until the temperatures went up into the 90's on about July 20th. There are some pictures in my diary. The one friut was crossed with the 821 Garrell(845Bobier X sib) finished at about 400 lbs., it has a very round shape without ribs. Good orange color. Seed available in about a month.
