When transporting to Topsfield, do any of you place padding of any sort between the pallett and the pumpkin?
If so, what type?
Thanks. Mark

Four layers of Carpet padding then a nice thick rug on top of that.

I once saw a mattress employed for this use. But based on the trouble the poor grower had removing the pumpkin at the weigh-in, I think I would stick with carpets.

What about the small trampoline, seen in photo gallery, with a couple of straps over the top to hold it in place. Should I ever get lucky enough to grow a competion size, I'm going to borrow an air-ride trailer.

I have glued and secured two inches of housing grade foam to the pilot. On top of this will go six inches of high density foam. The pumpkin will be placed on top of the lifting tarp and strapped down into its most forgiving foam nest. Many weigh off locations require that the fruit arrive on a pilot. The lifting tarp being left in place for the trip solves the on sight problem. You can roll the tarp or the lifting harness under the pumpkin quite easily. There is lots of help at the weigh-in sites.
I will post pictures of this set up, in my diary, later today. They may show this evening.

The styrofoam pallet system works great. Have used for 6 years with no broken fruit yet. Another addition I use for the long transports, is to put a small rimless tire under each pallet corner. This gives great cushioning on your travels. pumpkinpiper
