i just checked their site and this is what is says...so all of you are wrong!!!! Largest Pumpkin A pumpkin weighing 513 kg (1,131 lb) was grown from Atlantic Giant seed stock by Gerry Checkon of Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. It was weighed at the Pennsylvania Pumpkin Bowl on October 2, 1999. The pumpkin was nicknamed "Moony" because of the way it looked at night reflecting the moonlight in the garden.

Sorry, but I'm sure their site hasn't been updated for quite a while. That was the record, I believe, back in 1999. There have been 3 world records since then (Charlie Houghton's 1337 in 2002 being the latest). Charlie Tribout

I currently have an application in with guinness. I am goingto attempt to break the record for the largest pumpkin ever carved underwater. They say I should have their reply and rules within a couple weeks.

one of our local papers had an article about the 1458, and they also said that the current guiness record was 1131.

Kahuna's guiness world record 12 bottles and a sore head. If you put your pumpkin in the wax musuem do they still go rotten over time? Sorry for the pun but is there any point to a non certified, non sanctioned record, other than PR.

I think the printed text version for 2003 includes Charley Houghton's 1336.7. It must be some undertaking to keep a text like that current, but they seem to make a sincere attempt to do so. Even if we don't all agree on their criteria. - Steve

Matfox has the nail hit right on the head! Publishers in hard copy can only add new data when making a new edition of the hard copy. Errors, additions and omissions can only be done on new edition. Nearly every edition of any records book will be behind the actual events by a year or more.
The World Book Encypedia used to print a annual updating copy for new events and updating progressive reporting. The internet only makes these publications appear to be in arrears. They are not. It just takes time to make changes.

the 2004 book came out in sept or oct this year so this mean that guinness is working on the 2005 book already.
