Because most people prefer to grow orange more instead of green, more attracted to it...

jammerama pumpkins have been getting hype for there size at fairs for over 100 years and people still associate greatness to the pumpkin even though ag are both squash and pumpkin depending on it's hew. my feeling is the biggest fruit is the best no matter it's cooler in fact i feel that both giant squash & pumpkin should be considered the same and weighed together.

Well I agree with you Mr.T. It's time giant squash get the recognition and attention they deserve. I think they look awesome...nice dark green with whitish stripes in the ribs is my favourite...Should the pumpkin growing community change the rules regarding the distinction between giant squash and pumpkins? I'm not aware of how this issue has been dealt with recently or even if people have discussed it at all much...Any thoughts are welcome!!

what are the arguments against making just one giant pumpkin/squash category? I'd like to hear some of them. actual field pumpkins are green at first and then turn orange..so does that mean the unripened pumpkins should be called squash? I know that's a little tongue and cheek...haha...Really, I'm just curious what people think.

I know that at the Fredericton, N.B. exhibition, the giant pumpkins and squash were put together and judged....with a green squash winning. I am still gritting my teeth...I most definitly would have placed!....but I left mine growing. It goes to a local weighoff on Saturday.

Hey Don Quijot! If I had had as much luck as you growing white fruit, I would really love them too. Congratulations on your outstanding fruit!! My white ones are around 400lbs so I'm a little disappointed...oh well they're starting to get some pink in them which looks interesting and also a few green spots. They'll make nice Jack-o-Lanterns at least
