Anyone done any research on seed harvesting and whether seeds from certain parts of the pumpkin are better than others? Perhaps the seeds from one lobe/or seeds developed earlier or later are more likely to be the growers? I thought I read somewhere that the Wallaces were looking into that a couple of years ago. Any results?

I'm interested in this also. I would like to try it and see the results but not enough people, if any, will be planting my seed.

In a similar vein, how late is too late for harvesting seeds? Last year, I took the pumpkin off the vine in mid October (bear in mind that this is Canada, and had hit frost at this point) and kept it in the unheated garage until carving for Halloween. The seeds that I kept from this pumpkin did not germinate very well (about a 20% success rate). Could it be the temperature?
What is the proper technique for removal, cleaning, drying, storage, etc?

Thanks for the advice pumpkinpal. Lots of good stuff at the board wher you pointed me. Do you think that the cold temperatures have anything to do with it? Someone further up in the discussion mentioned that they freeze their seeds, so maybe not...?
