Well it is indeed a very sad day at our house, the wife's pumpkin blew out in the blossom end clear through to the cavity.

The final measurements were 144" circ. 91" stem to blossom and 92.5" side to side. Total ott was 327.5" = 720.0lbs

Even though I am so close to the situation I believe any other grower would have as well felt the heart ache looking over at Katrina seeing the tears well up in her eyes as she gazed down at a blossom end split that ended her first season prematurely.

Her year has been marred with set-backs, yet for a first year grower her accomplishments are tremendous, Her 720lb fruit would have broken the provincial record of 693.5lbs.

The seeds alone with the 1337 Houghton X 1230 Daletas is going to be a killer cross. I for one am planting this seed next year. I am also very proud of her and am going to enjoy seeing her take first place at Smoky Lake and smashing the provincial and site record for Squash with her 895 Hester* currently sitting at over 700+ pounds as well. On top of the this it is very cantaloped and big deep ribs, when you slap it it would be like slapping a cinder block. I would not be surprised if it went 30% heavy like the 724 Miller also grown off the 895 Hester*.

I'm so proud of you Katrina...

Love Always

Tough break Katrina. But hold your head high, 720 pounds in your first year is incredible. I'm anxious to see that squash in Smoky Lake!

Congrats on a great effort. I felt the same exact pains. If I were to be completely honest I would have to say I did not sleep well on it for a couple of days.

For your possible amusement....I report that I had bought a new trailer, pilot and high density foam to haul my first baby to the weigh off. It was on a solid 1000 lb. track a week befor we had our problem.

Coining Al's words.....Just Wait Untill Next Year!
