Well I figure since my earlier request for a 582 Hester seed went un-answered the chances of getting one are low so I'll settle for 40 yrds of good NH. soil. (lol)

I say we do a patch exchange. They come to our houses and grow, and we go to theirs. I am sure they would still beat us by 500lbs. Shannon

Hey Ernie, you are joking, but next summer I am going to travel to NH to take a bug of earth back with me and spread it in my patch as it were from Galadriel's box.

I would more like to know the exact solar cycle, atmospheric pressure, average temperature & humidity, etc...
A few printed soil tests would be nice too.
I'm not knocking their technical ability. But something about the environment the pumpkins grow in there is "special" as well.

That New Hampshire "Posse" is just darn good! Unbeleivable consistentcy every year someone got one! This certainly wasn't a premium year for the North east and yet they manage to pull these outta their hats...My hats off to the Posse.

i belive becides talent, and soil,, it is the ten degree swing factor ,,day/night..that gets bigger pumpkins. not to mention the cool canadian air beats back the mildew.
after seeing a tennessee super grub(twice the size of norm) i know deep in my soul that its the frost/s also.

I believe those NH growers are a great team that pushes anyone of them further. Is great to share techniques and secrets and help your friend at anytime. And I'll say one shocking thing: Mother soil is not very important, nor solar cycle, temps either. Why could I say so heretic affirmation? Look to Europe, and from were come the two heaviest pumpkins weighed so far here: one from the very south and one from the real north, and I am sure that the patch soils of Estocolm and Caceres don't look the same.
Yes I know we are not talking on such an extreme weigh, but to me the main reasons of that incredible growing success of Mr. Whittier are two: the seed and the grower. Some heavy hitter told me that she heard that a breeder expert said that among the 500 seeds of a pumpkin could be 25 with the greatest potential. And in the other hand, among the growers, there are some few (unfortunately for my patch I am not one of them) that can't take some sleep if just two little weeds still growing under their pumpkin leaves.
