Subject: how 2 dig up pumpkin plant from garden?

please help me with some advise. my plant will be likely 12 day's old with second true leaf when i'll be moving. i planted the seed direct so how should i dig up, how far out should i dig. should i soak soil first? any advice is welcome. as well i have 3 hurricains bearring down on me any suggestions as to a wind break that can with stand 150mph wind for 8 hours each?

One way: You need 3 persons, four big blades and a big pot. First water the whole area in the evening and wait for 1/2-1 hour. Then, hammer the four blades all around the plant in a sharp angle to the center. Smooth the soil. Two persons take two close blades each and lift the plant with its soil. Then the third person moves the pot under. and you slowly put down the plant into. The blade width should be OK to get enough soil around the plant to protect their root system.

hi SEAN had a 1172 greer planted in place of my 845 when 845 finllay gerrminated dug it out an replanted it in another patch growin good not much attenion though workin on my 845 morn noon an nite this could be BBBBBBBIGGGGGG KEN

good news for my pumpkin it seems the house i almost bought does not own all of it's, all to small yard. so i'm staying. good thing for i'm already doing better than last year. mudflap yours look huge. when your at the weigh off look for my freind joel jarvis (lookajook here) he's been growing for years but never had the space to grow a real wopper.

That is good news that you do not have to move.
A 12 day old plant would have still suffered some transplant shock. I bet it would recover with time.....depending on how careful you were with the roots.
I Still don't think that this is a good practice regardless of a plant's age and should be avoided at all costs.
Sean - What seed stock are you using this season?
