Well we went to the Fredericton exhibition and I immediately went to see the A.G. results. Well....apparently this was not a good growing year here in N.B. The largest "pumpkin" was a light green squash weighing in at 369 pounds. Second and third weighed over 320 (can't remember the weights of those exactly) Hubby convinced me to let mine grow and enter it in the local weighoff as usually the ones at the exhibition weigh upwards to 500 pounds....so as mine OTT's just 380, I did not enter it. It most surely (if the OTT can be trusted) weighed as much or more than 1st place and had second place for sure! Grrrrr...... Oh well, next year is coming and now I know anything over 300 pounds stands a chance. There were only 4 pumpkins entered (counting the first place "squash". Do those usually compete with orange pumpkins?? or are they in a class of their own? The stem on the big one had been broken and had been "screwed" on with a square holed screw. The local weighoff is on the 20th of September.
