i was curiouse as to how many pumpkins you growers grow that make it to weigh off time, and how many pumpkins don't make it from your gardens? example; 1 pumpkin to fair out of 4 grown 1 split, 2 with soft spot.

Whidbey Island

2 vines started. On one vine two choice pumpkins rotted. I'm down to one pumpkin on my remaining vine. Talk about not sleeping for worry about rotting, splits and varmits.....

Great Pumpkin

Enumclaw WA

4 seeds sprouted in pots
2 transplanted to garden
Both plants had about 60% abort rate at everyting from pingpong ball size to beachball size.
1 plant has 3 pumpkins all over 200# (1 main, 2 secondary)
1 plant has 2 pumpkins over 250# (1 on main, 1 on secondary)

We have an abort ratio of about 12:1 here at the house patch.
My son's school abort ratio is better at about 6:1.

I will attribute this to a more agressive fertility program here but the shade could have something to do with it too.

Mr T. How's about a cement or cinder block wall? Good luck & BE SAFE!
