Am I better off trying to fill the gaps with silicone or wax, or should I put a fan blowing on the splits to help keep the area dry? The size of the 2 splits are 3" long x 1/2" wide and 2" deep into the skin. I put a pencil into the splits and found at this point it's not into the cavity. This is my only pumpkin and I'll try anything to save her. At 300 lbs., it's not big enough to bring to a contest but I would like to grow her into october if possible.
Thanks, Will

Pack any dry fungicide including cornmeal into the crack. A completely organic treatment would include dumping 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in the crack first. When foaming stops all that is left is water. Finish by packing with cornmeal. ....Chemical fans can use any watery liquid fungicide first and dry pack with any dry fungicide. Adding a fan to create air movement may depending on relative humidity of a given day. Both dry fungicides and cornmeal will wick moisture to the surface for improved drying conditions. No matter how you pack or do not pack keeping it dry is a key consideration.
