Annie I my 1097.8 TC measuring over seven hundred pounds OTT grew around her supporting cradle and flat out split under her own weight.
Yesterday we concluded properly, I believe, that the marks on her were Anthracnose. I can live with that opinion with no problem at all. Let's listen to nature's law. First of all she split open about four days ago. The growth stopped and the internal rot began ever so quickly. Mother nature is very quick to offer help for the demise of a fallen child. The downpouring hard pounding rains splashed some spore up on the pumpkin. This time the fruit had not the good health to ward off the attack. We could not see the crack, not that it would have made any difference, because it was under the fruit hidden, by the cradle, holding her. The leaves, in the patch, remain healthy. They are not attacked. There is not a major Anthracnose outbreak. This seems to be the simple law of nature working in her usual speedy manor. Most soils contain all of the good and bad fungi. When needed they get right up and go to work....very quickly. When healthy and growing Annie I fought off this and perhaps other problems she could no longer fight of when her innards were rotting and closing the season.
The most painfull part of this whole situation is that if Wess in California can get his 1097.8 TC good and sound to the weigh off I will owe him five bucks on the gentleman's pumpkin bet. Go for it Wess.
A final series of pictures will be posted soon to show the last living hours of Annie I.

FOOD FOR NEXT YEARS GIANT! MAYBE TRY A TRUCK INNER TUBE WITH BUILDERS SAND. PUT A BARRIER BETWEEN THE PUMPKIN AND THE GROUND?
I USED THIN BLUE FOAM BOARD. NEXT YEAR SCREENED TENTS FOR PATCH. AND RAISED BEDS. AND HYDROPONIC ROOT DEVELOPEMENT. SORRY,,,TAKE THE SEED AND ENJOY... I HEAR THERE IS A SEED BANK. THERE ARE MANY AGs OUT THERE RIGHT NOW ,, THAT YOU ARE "PART OF". I WOULDNT HAVE SIX "LOOKIE THERE" AGs if not for your advice about the copper.
