This is my rookie year of pumpkin growing. I was wondering if someone could tell me when to worry about the pumpkin shell getting slightly soft. We've had 4.25" of rain in three days and it was fine until that. What do you to to try to prevent it from rotting or is it already too late? My Aunt and Uncle drive all the way from Orlando Florida to PA to buy Giant Pumpkins to take back to their produce stand in Florida to use for publicity. They've been doing it for a few years now. I thought I'd try to grow one for them, but I'm finding it's not that easy. Any advice would be much appreciated. Anyone going to the weighoff in Altoona,PA Oct. 4th, that would like to sell their pumpkin, let me know. Thank you.

Thank you for your responses docpipe and Mcpumpkin. It still "thunks", I checked this evening. I'll just cross my fingers. Thanks again.
